WE ARE NOT AN AVERAGE LABEL

Artist spotlight : Koniro

1. What inspired you to start your journey in urban music and create Koniro Records?

“I’ve always had a deep connection with music, especially urban genres like hip-hop and RnB. Growing up, I was inspired by the power of music to tell stories, reflect emotions, and create change. Over time, I realized that I wanted to create a platform where I could not only express my own artistry but also support and uplift other talented individuals who shared my passion. That’s when I founded Koniro Records. My goal was to create a label that values authenticity, creativity, and the essence of urban music, while also providing a community for up-and-coming artists. Koniro Records is more than just a label – it’s a home for urban music innovators.”

2. Can you describe your signature sound and how it sets you apart in the music scene?

“My sound is a blend of soulful RnB, moody vibes, and dynamic hip-hop beats. I focus on creating music that resonates emotionally, drawing from personal experiences and stories. What sets me apart is my ability to fuse different elements, whether it’s raw lyrics or atmospheric instrumentals, and still create a cohesive sound. Koniro Records pushes boundaries by blending traditional and contemporary styles, making our music both timeless and innovative. Our music is not just heard – it’s felt, and that’s what makes it truly unique.”

3. What were some key challenges you faced while building your label, and how did you overcome them?

“Building a music label from the ground up comes with its share of challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was balancing the creative and business aspects. It’s easy to get lost in the artistic side and forget about the logistical elements that make a label successful, like marketing, finances, and artist management. Another challenge was getting recognition in a highly competitive industry. I overcame these by staying true to my vision and building a strong, passionate team that shares the same goals. Persistence, learning from others, and staying adaptable has been key in overcoming challenges and growing Koniro Records.”

4. How does Koniro Records support emerging artists, and what’s your approach to mentorship?

“At Koniro Records, supporting emerging talent is a core mission. We provide a platform for artists to express themselves creatively while offering the resources they need to succeed. From production support to branding and marketing strategies, we offer a comprehensive range of services to help artists grow. Mentorship is also a big part of our approach. We offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced mentorship programs, guiding artists through every stage of their career, whether they’re just starting out or looking to refine their craft. Our goal is to empower artists, not only with the technical skills but also with the confidence to navigate the music industry independently.”

5. What do you hope listeners take away from your latest album, “I Lost Myself in You”?

“I want listeners to feel a deep connection with ‘I Lost Myself in You.’ The album is about raw, vulnerable emotions – it’s a journey through love, heartbreak, self-discovery, and growth. Each track tells a story, and I hope listeners find pieces of themselves in the music. Whether it’s through the lyrics, the production, or the overall vibe, I want people to walk away from this album feeling seen, understood, and inspired. At its core, this album is about the beauty of human emotion and the strength that comes from embracing your true self.”

6. Who are some artists or producers that have influenced your style?

“I’ve been influenced by a wide range of artists and producers, from legends in hip-hop like J Dilla and Dr. Dre to contemporary RnB artists like The Weeknd and Frank Ocean. Their ability to blend emotion with rhythm has deeply influenced my approach to music. Producers like Pharrell Williams and Timbaland have also shaped how I think about beats and production. I admire how they push boundaries and experiment with sound while staying true to the essence of their style. At Koniro Records, we strive to follow that same ethos of innovation and authenticity.”

7. What can we expect from Koniro Records in the next year? Any upcoming projects or collaborations?

“The next year is going to be huge for Koniro Records. We’re working on expanding our roster of artists and launching several exciting collaborations. There’s new music in the works, including my next project which I’m really excited about. We’re also exploring collaborations with other labels and producers to create even more diverse and innovative music. Beyond music, we’ll be offering more mentorship programs and expanding into merchandise. Our goal is to continue pushing the boundaries of urban music while staying true to the heart of the genre.”

8. How do you balance your roles as an artist, producer, and label owner?

“Balancing these roles is definitely a challenge, but it’s something I’ve grown into. I’m passionate about every aspect of music, so I try to structure my time to give each role its due attention. As an artist, I dedicate time to writing and creating music. As a producer, I’m constantly working on sound and production techniques to elevate the tracks. And as a label owner, I’m always thinking about how to grow Koniro Records and support the artists we work with. It’s about finding a rhythm and staying focused, but also knowing when to step back and recharge creatively.”

9. What advice would you give to aspiring musicians looking to break into the urban music industry?

“My biggest advice is to stay true to yourself and your sound. The music industry is tough, and there’s a lot of noise, but if you’re authentic and passionate about what you’re creating, people will notice. Consistency is key – keep honing your craft, and don’t be afraid to invest in your own growth, whether it’s through mentorship, collaborating with others, or learning new skills. Also, surround yourself with a supportive network – having people who believe in you and your vision is invaluable. At Koniro Records, we’re here to support artists every step of the way, offering the tools and mentorship they need to succeed.”

10. How do you stay creative and inspired while managing the business side of the label?

“It can be challenging to balance the creative and business sides, but I find inspiration in everyday life. I set aside time for myself to reflect, write, and create without any pressure. That space allows me to stay connected to my creative side. When I focus on the business side, I see it as an extension of the creative process – after all, running a label is about bringing music to the world in a way that resonates with people. Also, working with other artists keeps me inspired; seeing their growth and passion reminds me why I started Koniro Records in the first place.”
